In many Florida communities, as many as 70% of the kids can’t swim.

Before Project Seahorse, a large percentage of the non-swimming kids in Florida have had no interest in “Learning to Swim”. Programs to teach swimming have been largely ignored in these communities.

At Project Seahorse, we believe teaching kids to snorkel, is the water based equivalent of teaching kids to READ...

Like reading, snorkeling opens up a huge world for kids--including science, the environment, and marine biology...and it protects kids, and it connects them to school. Teaching kids to swim, is like learning the alphabet - “YOU HAVE TO LEARN IT, before you can learn to read”.

Every kid needs to want to know this alphabet, this swimming skill, in order to have their world open up with snorkeling.    We believe snorkeling is the best way to get a  large percentage of kids that can't swim, to finally “WANT to LEARN how to Swim”....so that they can Snorkel with their friends and Family!

In the Summer of 2016, Project Seahorse teamed up with Diversity in Aquatics, this creating an ideal strength in swim instruction and snorkel instruction. Diversity in Aquatics is a 501 c3, that works hard to reach the communities with the most non-swimming kids, and offer them swim instruction. With the interest of more communities, we intend to bring this synergy to many more kids in 2017.

As kids find themselves in love with snorkeling and the ocean, many of them want to learn more about marine science and the ocean environment. Project Seahorse introduced a new marine science class into its camp curriculum this year, and we have exciting plans for where this can go in the future, thanks to Famous Co-Founder of Project Seahorse, Jim Abernethy. Jim is now working on plans to get kids that have gone through at least one year of Project Seahorse training, to be able to get involved in Project Seahorse Science Projects, and Ocean Conservation efforts. These projects will make learning fun, and the kids can actually help fix the world we live in.
